01/2003 It's almost Christmas 2002 as I write this, prompted to do so at this nostalgic time of year by memories of last summer's lovely 42nd class reunion. It was so much fun to go back to Aurora and to renew acquaintances with wonderful folks whom I hadn't seen for more years than I care to recall. It was a pleasure and a privilege to attend. I married Tom Friday, class of '59, after college more than thirty-eight years ago. We reside in San Antonio, Texas...have been here for almost twenty-seven years. We love this area; we love Mexico, the closest point of which is only about 2 1/2 hours from us. It's a very interesting, easy place to live - especially at this time of year. We have three grown children: Elizabeth Savage, 36, living in Dallas with her husband and their young daughter; Tim Friday, 33, living in Houston with his wife and their two children; and Amanda Neelley, 28, married with no children yet, also in Dallas. Although Texas is a big state, we're able to see them fairly often and we truly enjoy their company. Let me close by saying Happy New Year; I hope it truly will be for us as individuals and for the country. |

07/2002 After graduating from West High, I earned a Bachelor's and Master's degrees in music from the University of Illinois in Champaign/Urbana. One of the highlights of college was a state department sponsored 4 1/2 month tour of central and South America which was wonderful! After graduating from college I was a musician with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra for 4 years. We had 2 3-week tours each year so I saw lots of places from Maine to Key West to Seattle Washington and San Diago, Ca. After that I moved to Tampa, Fl. and played with the Florida Gulf Coast Symphony, subed with the Orlando orchestra and the Jacksonville Symphony and yes, I played in Carnegie Hall on two separate occasions (how do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, man, practice ). I also played with several jazz groups and had a T.V. show for awhile. In 1973 I decided I wanted something more stable in my life so I looked into computers. I decided these things were gonna be around for awhile so I landed a job with GTE Data Services programming mainframe computers. Through the years I was a programmer, systems analyst, DBA, Systems Programmer on the mainframe and a DBA on an HP UNIX box running SYBASE, ORACLE and a windows NT box running SQL server for various companies. I am currently retired from a job in San Antonio, TX and now work for the worlds largest credit card processing company in Columbus, Ga. I am married to my wife of 22 years, Terri, and we have 2 boys. We live in a neat old house, a 2800 SQ FT bungalow, built in 1917 and added onto in the 40's or 50's, we're not sure but it has the hardwood floors, 10 ft. ceilings and real plaster walls, etc. We really like it and the neighbors are great! My hobby is amateur radio (ham radio - call sign KD5CO) - I've been a HAM since 1978. |

07/2002 After high school graduation I served in the United States Navy for 9 years before leaving and going with the air traffic control in Aurora after graduating from Air Traffic Control School in Oklahoma City. I left Aurora in the early 1970's and moved to Daytona Beach, Florida, where I worked for a large apartment complex in the capacity of maintenance, specializing in air conditioning. For the past 12 years I was self employed working for property managers (Century 21, Rental Results, etc.) in the maintenance of home rentals and preparing homes for closings. My specialty was air conditioning and heating but also worked in plumbing and electrical, as well. When we sold our 4-bedroom home we had a smaller house built on the 9th fairway of a golf course in a gated golf community in Orlando, Florida in preparation for retirement. Semi-retired I was asked by our homeowner's association if I would consider the position of overseeing the maintainence of our golf community. Since we live in this community it seemed like the best of all worlds and I have been in this position for just over a year and plan to stay here as long as I feel up to it. My wife, Anne, has been working with the University of Central Florida since 1971 and has plans for retirement but I'm hopeful she will continue with the university a while longer as she is good at her job and she likes her work. We cruise at least two 7-day cruises a year and take 3-day cruises to the Bahamas in between. Living in central Florida allows us the opportunity to take advantage of cruise specials. Our next cruise will be out of New York for the fall colors. We enjoy the casinos and find it's easier to board the ships than to fly to Las Vegas where I am a welcomed guest at the Riveria (and own the carpet on the first level in the casino) and Fitzgerald's Hotel & Casino (where I should own part interest in the limo)! ;-) A second marriage for both myself and wife Anne, we have 3 children (both families) and 5 grandchildren. One son is working for the Immigrations and Naturalization Service living in Texas, the other son teaches computer software applications on the college level in Phoenix, Arizona and a daughter living in the Orlando area working for Florida Power Corporation. My mom still lives independently in the Orlando area and is a very active part of our family. |

08/2002 I went to work at Northern Illinois Gas Co. right after graduation. It was there that I met my first husband. We married in 1961 and had two daughters, who are now 40 and 38. They have given us three granddaughters. After we moved to Beaverton, Oregon (where we had honeymooned), we had twins, a boy and a girl, who are now 32. Neither have been married. When the twins were going to kindergarten, I started working at Tektronix and worked there for 18 years, ending up managing their National Marketing Center. During this time, I had gotten divorced. After being single for 10 years, I met Col. Ron Olsen. He had retired from the Air Force, was a salesman at Tek and had the New Mexico territory. The twins were 18 and it was finally time for me again. Ron and I have been married 15 years (August 2002) and have a wonderful life together. He is from the Olsen and Johnson Vaudeville family, so there are a lot of laughs at our house. We have 7 children and 7 grandchildren between us. We both work for a security company based out of Memphis, TN. |

UP DATE 03/2006 We recently built a second home in Prescott, AZ for one of our retirement homes. With 7 children between us, there's a full apartment down stairs for their visits. My Husband says we can throw meat down to them!!!!! We're both still working, I, hopefully not too much longer, my husband wants to be shot by a jealous husband making his last sales call at 104!!! By golly, He just might make it too, but I have no plans to be around that long!!! Life is full at the Olsen house. One daughter got married in Las Vegas on March 11. At 36 and never married b/4, we're all very excited for her. My son Dean, works for MTV and will be moving from Atlanta to Nashville for the company. Have a daughter still in Eugene, who graduated from the University there and never left town. And lastly, have a daughter in Bakersfield, CA, who recently got a new job in sales. Our 9th grandchild is due in June and most likely one of the last, as we all know, OUR children are getting too old to have babies!! Especially those of us who married early. Life is good in LaQuinta, CA. Our motto is "If your feet our above the grass, you're having a great day". We both try to live by that. During the last few years, I have "hooked Up" on the email with four or five of our classmates, and truly enjoyed hearing about their lives, great jokes and sometimes sadden to hear those that have passed on. Everyday counts for something and I wish the class of "60" the best, Kay Miller Olsen |
